Meyer says that lying is a cooperative act. When she says that she means that for a lie to have power and work, you need both the lier and some one to believe the lie. A lie can not work if no one believes it. While essentially this thought is correct it is like saying a crime is made possible because the victim aloud it to happen. Lying is manipulating the truth in a way that the "victim" believes your story. It is a one sided effort where it success of the lie depends on the ability of the lier, not the gullibility of the person.
She also said that lying is a way of connecting what we wish we were with what we are. We lie about ourselves, our lives, and everything, so that other people believe you. When other people believe you it makes it easier to tell yourself that life is the you want it.
The statement "We are against lying but covertly for it" is also true for the most part. We want a fair and equal battle ground, up until the point where where our advantages taken away. So we lie about what we do have and don't have to give ourself an advantage. The best analogy is the cuttle fish. The male has 6 tentacles and the female have four. Strong males tend to have multiple mates mid level strength typically have one mate. the weak male who has no chance to to mate lies about itself. it hides a pair t of tentacles to make it appears as a female then it sneaks into the male harem to mate. Depending on what level we are on we either want the truth or not.
Some techniques there are to spot a lier is that is used to to spot a is Two much details in chronological order, body language like shoulder shrugs and smirks called duping delight. we would want to know to know these techniques so that we can better spot a lier.
Honesty is always a good thing to preserve especially when it hurts someone. We as a culture need to put in an effort into being honest.
