Last Sunday My family and I got a new puppy. She is a beautiful black lab named Missy Willow or just Willow for short. We struggled at first with her name because everyone had a different name in mind. My dad wanted to give her a Christmas themed name like Holy because she was born on Christmas Eve. However no one else liked that name. After much debating we decided on Willow.
Some background information on our family and the decision to get willow is that our family, and two of my dad's sister and their family share a small lake cottage in Michigan. We shared this property for 20 years. Our group had an unspoken agreement of no big dogs there because there would not be a lot of room for them. All three families had small dogs to medium sized dogs so there were no issues. But over the course of 20 years all of those dogs passed away due to age or heath issues. My aunts first replacement dog was a toy labradoodle so it didn't break our unofficial size rule. Then my cousin from the other sisters family bought himself a chocolate lab which did break the size rule. He was well behaved for the most part so we let if slide and he became a part of the family.
Now because of the breaking of that rule we gave up on the no big dogs rule so the family that got the first lab is getting a second lab, a silver one. My sister and I wanted one too so we tried to convince our parents to get the silver lab's sister. They were not too thrilled about it because of how much they cost and all the vet bills. Eventually they came around though but by the time they did all of the silver labs were gone. We looked at the same breeders other labs and all that was left was a charcoal lab or a black lab. We went there to se which one we like better and immediately bonded with Willow and how we got here today. So now we are house breaking her, training her and all this other stuff so that she will be ready to go to the lake this summer
